چکیده

Prediction of particle dispersion and distribution in a room is very important for creating and maintaining a healthy indoor environment. The present study used a CFD program with a Lagrangian particle tracking method to predict particle dispersion and concentration distribution in ventilated rooms. Since the Lagrangian method could generate great uncertainty in particle concentration calculations, this study first investigated such uncertainty using a statistical approach. It was found that the stability of the concentration solution became well controlled as a sufficient number of particles were analyzed. Although the overall computational cost was considerable, the numerical results agreed well with associated experimental data. In all cases studied, particle size distribution was monodisperse, and particle diameter ranged from 0.31 to 4.5 μm. Particle deposition rate was neglected, and particles were hence removed only by the ventilation system. Thus the particle removal performance of different ventilation systems can be evaluated. Three ventilation systems have been studied, including ceiling and side wall supply systems and an underfloor air distribution (UFAD) system. It was found that the UFAD system had a better particle removal performance than the ceiling and side wall supply systems in the study. However, resuspended particles at the floor level can still cause problems in an underfloor air distribution system.

3D Numerical Simulation of the Separated Turbulent Shallow Flow around a Single Side Obstacle

In this paper, the performance of Reynolds Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) simulations was evaluated to predict the flow structure developed by the presence of a sidewall obstruction in a uniform open-channel shallow flow. The study of these flow structures is important because they present in several real world configurations, such as groynes in rivers, where the erosion processes, mass transpor...

Field Measurements and 3D Numerical Modeling of Hydrodynamics in Chabahar Bay, Iran

As the first phase of a series of monitoring and modeling studies of Iranian coastal areas, Chabahar Bay, located on the north coast of the Gulf of Oman, was under a comprehensive monitoring and modeling study in 2006-2007. The study included an extensive one-year field measurements program to help understanding the ongoing processes in the bay and provide inputs or boundary conditions and vali...

Experimental study and application of computational fluid dynamics on the prediction of air velocity and temperature in a ventilated chamber

The shape of the air flow in the interior is heavily influenced by the air distribution system and the way air enters and exits. By numerically simulating flow by computational fluid dynamics, one can determine the flow pattern and temperature distribution and, with the help of the results, provide an optimal design of the air conditioning system. In this study, a chamber was first constructed ...

A three-dimensional numerical model to estimate the fall velocity of sediment particles

The fall velocity of sediment particles plays a key role in sediment transport studies. Researchers have attempted to determine the terminal fall velocity, and most of the studies in this regard have been based on experimental, quasi-experimental, and in-situ measurements. The present study aimed to use a numerical model to estimate the fall velocity of a single sediment particle in distilled a...
